Managing Director

Chris Lathey

Chris has worked in the Gibraltar insurance industry since 2002, firstly with Aon and then later focusing on personal lines insurers with a particular focus on motor. Chris has been involved with Haven from the very beginning back in 2002, has been Managing Director since 2008, and has been a key part of the management team driving the tremendous growth and success of the business over the years.

In his role as Managing Director, Chris has a key focus on delivering a fast, efficient and quality service to customers, good control over underwriting and claims management, and further enhancing the financial strength and reputation of the business.

Finance Director

Iqbal Sandhu

Iqbal is a graduate from the University of Kent at Canterbury and an ACCA qualified accountant since 2001. He joined Haven in May 2022 and brings with him a wealth of Insurance sector experience having previously held a number of senior Finance leadership roles at both AXA and Capita over the past 22 years.

Kyle Tyrrell

Kyle is a qualified accountant with over 17 years of insurance experience. After a decade at AXA working across various product lines, he became Group CFO at The Acorn Group, focusing on personal lines.

Kyle joined Haven’s board as an Executive Director in February 2022 and is passionate about driving its strategic growth and delivering real value to customers and stakeholders.

John Welsh ACII

John Welsh has more than 40 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, coming from both an insurance company and Lloyd’s Syndicate background. Most recently, John has been on the treaty reinsurance side working for Hannover Re, the world’s 3rd largest reinsurer, where he was responsible for clients domiciled in the UK, Ireland and Gibraltar, underwriting a wide variety of Property & Casualty insurance classes, including Motor, Property, Liability and Professional Indemnity. John is qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).

John joined Haven as a Non-Executive Director in 2012.

Shaun Cawdery

Shaun Cawdery started his career in Gibraltar in the early 2000’s in the audit industry, focusing largely on insurance companies and investment funds. After 12 years in audit, during which Shaun had developed a core portfolio of insurance clients in his role as Audit Director, he moved into insurance management and assisted a number of general insurers particularly with the transition to Solvency II. Shaun developed an expertise in the Solvency II standard formula, developing a tailored modelling pillar 1 tool for his clients which integrated the GAAP and SII balance sheets and the technical elements of the pillar 3 reporting.

Shaun was elected as the Chairman of the Gibraltar Insurance Association in February 2019, having previously been in the executive team and the Chair or its Technical Committee. Shaun has previously also been part of some of the various committees of the Gibraltar Society of Accountants.

Non-Executive Director

Louise Cruz

Louise Cruz has acted as a non-executive director of Haven Insurance since January 2020, and is Chair of Haven’s Audit Committee. Before taking the role, Louise worked in the Gibraltar financial services industry for over 30 years.

Louise is a Chartered Certified Accountant and has accumulated extensive experience, working at a “Big Four” company, and holding an executive directorship at a prominent insurance management company, whose clients included UK motor insurers. Louise is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Stephen Reyes

Stephen is a chartered accountant with over 25 years experience as managing partner of one of the ‘Big 4’ Accounting firms in Gibraltar. Recently retired from that role, Stephen joined the Haven Board in February 2022 as its Chairman. During his career Stephen has been a statutory auditor involved in auditing a wide range of clients in many industries, including financial services and has also led the tax and advisory departments of the firm. He has led industry bodies Boards, including the Gibraltar Society of Accountants and the Gibraltar Finance Centre Council and has been involved in many industry and Government led initiatives to assist in the development of Gibraltar as an International Financial Centre.

A fervent supporter of personal development, education, charitable and community initiatives Stephen has over the years taken on various honorary roles in several not-for-profit entities promoting objectives in these areas.

Vanessa O’Mahony

Vanessa is an accomplished Risk & Compliance professional, with over 15 years’ experience in regulated financial services. After graduating in Law with Business, Vanessa has spent the majority of her career in the insurance sector gaining a wealth of experience across all aspects of insurance with a key focus on regulatory compliance. Vanessa is a member of the International Compliance Association, having achieved an International Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance and is currently the Risk & Compliance Director of Gibraltar’s longest established Law Firm. Vanessa joined the Haven Board as a Non-Executive Director in 2022.
